NOVEMBER 2024 PROJECT:

Welcome to this month’s Art Discovery lesson, “Colorful Crawlers: 3D Beetle Art”! In this project, students will learn to draw and color their own beetles, drawing inspiration from real beetles found in nature. They will explore the concepts of analogous and complementary colors from the color wheel while practicing blending techniques with pastels.

This lesson encourages creativity in color choices and reinforces symmetry in their beetle designs. Feel free to use the color wheel poster or an optional video from the Art Discovery website to support understanding. The finished projects will be showcased in April, where students will present their artwork to family and friends.

Enjoy guiding your students through this vibrant and creative adventure!

Leads, show this video to the kids if you need an additional resource for teaching the color wheel and color blending.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

Leads, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the color wheel. This video is a quick refresher to boost your confidence when teaching the lesson and to answer any questions you might have. You don’t need to show this video to the kids.

1.Please have children write their names on the back of their project. This project will be displayed at the Art Showcase in the spring, and a printed label with their name and teacher’s name will be placed on the front. (We are aware that in the video, the student’s name is on the front—please ignore this and have the kids write their information on the back.)

2.Leads, please coordinate with your teacher to use their computer and projector so you can play the provided videos if you believe they will be useful tools for your lesson.
